Cape Town is often voted as one of the top destination cities in the world. The city is famous for its natural scenery, with its beautiful mountains and beaches, winefarm’s and top-notch restaurants. Plus, its vibrant nightlife and diverse culture. The city is also affordable and offers great value! But besides this Cape Town also has plenty of adrenaline pumping adventures to offer! Here is a list of the top 10 adrenaline pumping adventures to do in and around Cape Town.
On the top of my list is skydiving! Head up the West Coast for about a 40-minute drive and here you will find the drop zone of Skydive Cape Town. I did the tandem jump several years ago and can honestly attest that it was the most thrilling, exhilarating experience. I felt strangely invincible free-falling straight down to the earth. Skydiving was something I never imagined I would do yet a friend talked me into doing it and I totally loved the experience. I still laugh when I remember how loudly I screamed and how courageous I felt that day! The views you see from up high of Table Mountain and the sandy beach below were also stunning. I was on an adrenaline high for about a week after the jump, it was a really special experience.
If jumping out of a plane is a bit too crazy for you to stomach, then rather try ziplining. This is also a great way to get the blood pumping and endorphins flowing. Mr T. and I recently enjoyed doing the ziplines at Cape Canopy Tour in Elgin, which is about an hour’s drive from Cape Town. Wow what an experience! They have built 13 platforms up high in the Hottentots Holland Mountains. There are 11 zip lines of up to 320m long connecting across the valleys. The mountain, valley and natural scenery were breathtaking. And by the time we zipped across the last slide, we really had the hang of sliding in!
Paragliding is available for those who prefer plummeting down to the earth at a more leisurely pace! Cape Town Tandem Paragliding paraglides off Lion’s Head and lands on Camps Bay or Clifton Beach below.
Unfortunately, it is illegal to paraglide off the top of Table Mountain, however, you are allowed to abseil on Table Mountain. Abseil Africa offer abseiling adventures for hiking and rock climbing enthusiasts, sure to get the adrenaline pumping.
5. Hint Hunt
If you’re looking for an adrenaline adventure combined with a problem-solving game then you have to try Hint Hunt. Hint Hunt is an escape game, you are locked inside a room with 5 or 6 of your friends and you have to work together as a team to decipher clues to break out of the room. You have 60 minutes to figure out the clues as the games master feeds your hints to keep you on the correct track. This game is truly original and will keep you engaged for the entire time! I’ve done this game with work colleagues and friends and had a ton of fun on both occasions.
6. Go Karting
If you like speed and racing then you will love the indoor karting track at Kenilworth Karting. They offer races for up to 6 drivers at a time, with electronic scored times for each driver. And then a grand finale race to assert your dominance. The track is tight and loops around offering ample opportunity to lap your competitors!
7. Shooting Range
I wouldn’t describe shooting as necessarily fun but it certainly gets the adrenaline pumping. There are several shooting ranges around Cape Town but the False Bay Shooting Range which is set inside a quarry up above False Bay is probably the prettiest. They offer a program for visitors, in which you can shoot a range of guns including a handgun, rifle, and shotgun. An experienced shooter guides you through the experience showing you how to correctly handle each gun. So, if you are a total newcomer like I was when I did this, you still feel safe. You definitely need to take earplugs and wear earphones! It is very loud!
Paintball is one of the original adrenaline pumping adventures in Cape Town, enjoyed by many punters over the years. There are several paintball companies operating in and around Cape Town. Paintball is a fun, popular activity for team building, birthday or bachelor parties in Cape Town.
9. Mountain Biking
Mountain biking is big in Cape Town and has been one of the fastest growing sports in the country over the past few years! There are plenty of mountain biking trails to explore in the Cape Town, Constantia, Stellenbosch or Franschhoek mountains.
10. Shark Cage Diving
Last but not least on this list of adrenaline pumping adventures in Cape Town is Shark Cage Diving. This is a frightening exhilarating, experience reserved for the very brave! The best location to view great white sharks is in Gansbaai which is about a 2-hour drive outside of Cape Town. And the best time of year to see them is from June to September.
As you can see, Cape Town has plenty of activities to get your endorphins and adrenaline pumping. Which adrenaline pumping adventure will you be enjoying next time you visit Cape Town?
